“Turn to me now, while there is time. Give me your hearts. Come with fasting, weeping, and mourning. Don’t tear your clothing in your grief, but tear your hearts instead.” Return to the LORD your God, for he is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He is eager to relent and not punish.

Who knows? Perhaps he will give you a reprieve, sending you a blessing instead of this curse. Perhaps you will be able to offer grain and wine to the LORD your God as before.

Blow the ram’s horn in Jerusalem! Announce a time of fasting; call the people together for a solemn meeting.

Gather all the people— the elders, the children, and even the babies. Call the bridegroom from his quarters and the bride from her private room.”

Fast & Prayer Guide

We have created a guide for you to read Scripture and intentionally pray God’s Word and His promises for our nation Sri Lanka. We are fasting together as a church family. If you can fast & pray daily or even a couple of days per week or weekly and even those unable to fast for any reason but yet able to join in prayer please do give in your names.

Why Do We Fast and Pray?

A biblical fast can be defined as simply abstaining from food for spiritual purposes. It was encouraged and expected by Jesus that believers would fast (Matt. 6:17-18, Matt. 9:15). Many abstain from food, television and other forms of entertainment during this time and spend that time drawing closer to God instead. What makes this time of fasting rich is by using the time to pray, read the Bible and worship God. Simply said – if fasting is not coupled with prayer and Bible reading it’s simply a diet. 

God hears every prayer we utter to Him. When we add fasting to our spiritual practice of seeking God’s will to be done, we create an opportunity to get to know Jesus even more intimately.

Often, fasting is accompanied by carving out extra time to spend in God’s Word and to spend on our knees in prayer, seeking God’s will and submitting our own. When our stomachs grumble and our patience runs thin, we recognize more acutely our weaknesses and our great need for our Savior, King Jesus.

Fasting for our Nation 

We have selected Scripture for you to read and guided prayers for you to use to intentionally give this time to Jesus and to pray in alignment with the vision God has given.  Our mission is enormous and can only be accomplished through a supernatural working of God. It also reminds us that we desperately need God to do it.

We’re in this Together

Fasting can be difficult. If you participate, you may feel uncomfortable and even irritable or angry as your body grumbles and groans for food to relieve its aching. But we can rest even when we’re experiencing temporary discomfort, because, despite the weakness of our physical bodies, we are rewarded with the greatest blessing. We are rewarded with more of God Himself. And as our bodies become weak, our faith is strengthened as we taste and see that the Lord is good.

Declarations and Prayer Points

You will find the Prayer Guide, including Scripture and prayer points in this section. 

1. Pray for reconciliation of all parties; to come together to form a caretaker cabinet and to come into reality of terms.
2. Pray for the unravelling of and tearing down of the accusations, hatred, animosity, bitterness, mistrust the accuser, the thief, the robber and the murderer (as stated in John 10:10) has worked over the years, and operated during years of sorcery, withcraft and divination which has affected the parliamentary members physically, psychologically, mentally creating barriers, mind blocks, divisions and mountians – demonically crafted and manipulated .
3. The Lord Jesus, the Good Shepherd is calling us to partner with him to destroy the evil works of Satan.

Jesus says in Matthew 17:20 “He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

Jeremiah 1:10-12 “See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out and to pull down, to destroy and to throw down, to build and to plant.” Moreover the word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Jeremiah, what do you see?” And I said, “I see a branch of an almond tree.” Then the Lord said to me, “You have seen well, for I am ready to perform My word.”

4. Isaiah 40:13-15 “Who has known the mind of the LORD, and who has instructed him as his counselor? Who did he take counsel with, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of justice, and taught him knowledge, and showed him the way of understanding? Look, the nations are like a drop in a bucket, and are regarded as a speck of dust on a balance. Look, he lifts up the islands like a very little thing.” Oh Jesus do this for little Sri Lanka. Pray that we will know the mind of the Lord and instruct nations.
5. Isaiah 41:15 “Look, I have made you into a new sharp threshing instrument with teeth. You will thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and will make the hills like chaff.” Please pray earnestly for the perpetrators of violence on the 9th of May at Galle Face to be arrested
6. Pray that the new cabinet and Prime Minister will work with the Shepherd heart of God, and with sensitivity to the Father Heart of God. Pray that they will receive the Cyrus anointing of The Lord. May God cleanse the seats of parliament with His precious blood!
7. The new Cabinet to respect God’s heart of Justice and Righteousness. May they carry every investigation impartially and without any interference.
8. Pray that the Church of God will be united, have respect for each other, be aligned with the mind and spirit of God and would be a lighthouse to the nation.
9. Thank God for the favour extended by friendly nations and for the heart God has given them to Help Sri Lanka in its time of need.
10. The tourism industry to be built up again in Sri Lanka. Every bad reputation and report against Sri lanka will be erased and Sri lanka will once again be one of the best destinations for travel.
11. Sri lanka’s agricultural sector to boom again with modern technology
12. Sri Lanka’s IT industry to grow in innovation and software development. Sri lanka to be the Silicon valley of Asia.
13. Sri Lanka to receive and be able to payback with ease all IMF funding and long terms loans
14. Pray that God the Master Builder will build Sri Lanka once again in every aspect and that the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ will partner with the working of the Lord.
15. Pray for the Police and the Forces – Army, Navy and AirForce, that swords will be turned to plowshares and pruning hooks. Isaiah 2:4 “And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.”

Repentance & Mercy from the Lord

2 Chronicle 7:14“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

1. Lord I repent for my sins and shortcomings
2. Lord we repent that we as a nation have not acknowledged you as our God and Shepherd
3. Lord forgive our rulers who have no regard for you and your ways
4. People to renounce violence and illegal acts. Legal action against culprits who instigate violence. The reign of terror to cease and for peace, stability, justice and tolerance of all communities

Leaders/Parliament

1. God’s Shepherd heart to guide and help all parties to come together to form a national CareTaker Government, taking note of national interest rather than party interest
2. The 20th amendment to be repealed and the 21st amendment to be introduced in the constitution (Parliament to have more power)
3. Remove rulers who do not have a shepherd heart and a servant heart over your people
4. Raise up a generation of leaders and rulers who have a noble heart and noble intentions. We believe in God our Father to appoint the correct rulers at the correct time. Sri Lanka needs just people to come forward!

Governance

1. Daniel 2:21 “And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding” – God to give wisdom to Sri Lanka for governance and, God’s hand to move with the best solutions and plans.”
2. Isaiah 28:6 “For a spirit of justice to him who sits in judgment, and for strength to those who turn back the battle at the gate.” – Strength and boldness to the judiciary to work independently and strength for the intercessors to be before the face of the Father.
3. We hold shields against the fragile democracy of Sri Lanka and prevent military invasion

Financial Prosperity

1. Joel 2:22-29 God’s revival fire and restoration to come to Sri Lanka and that God will bring long term economic and financial policies to our nation. Let Sri Lanka come under the heavenly Potter’s Wheel. We partner with God in His solutions for our land.
2. Let the mighty Hand of God move to redeem and restore the wealth and the riches stolen from the nation.
3. Psalm 23:1-2 “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake” – O Lord You are the Shepherd of Sri Lanka and she will not go into famine. All green pastures of Sri Lanka belong to you. We ask for restoration of all fountains of wealth and income in Sri Lanka.
4. May You lead this nation in the paths of righteousness. Every seat of governance in legislature, judiciary and executive to be aligned to God’s Paths of Righteousness
5. John 10:10 “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” – We eject demonization, robbery and corruption occupying these seats. We reclaim seats of governance and economic management by the sprinkling of the blood of Jesus. We decree and declare the authority of God’s word for discipling of our nation Sri Lanka and we ask that the power of the Holy Spirit will overshadow these seats.
6. Philippians 4:19 “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” – Pray for Miraculous provision to be released and economic deliverance of the nation

Religious beliefs/witchcraft sorcery

And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” Matthew 16:19

1. 1 John 2:2. “He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world” – Claim this verse of scripture over Sri Lanka
2. Be discerning of the spirit of death hovering over the land. Please invoke Romans 16:20 “The God of Peace will soon crush satan under your feet. “
3. Hebrews 12:24 “to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel” – that the Blood of Jesus will speak better things for Sri Lanka than the Blood of Abel. The judgment of the Lord to strike all influences of sorcery and witchcraft in our nation
4. Psalm 23:4 “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” – We send forth Your royal rod and shepherd staff over all shadows of death and rulers of darkness and men and women, sorcerers empowered by rulers of darkness. Sri Lanka Shall be Free in Jesus Name!
5. Pray for every planned destruction taking place. Pray that all these destruction schemes of men and women working with demons will be exposed in the light.

People groups – Youth

You will Lord Jesus reveal your face and reveal that you hear the cry of the young people who are standing up for a cause

Salvation for Sri Lanka 

1. Malachi 4:2 “But to you who fear My name the Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings; And you shall go out and grow fat like stall-fed calves.”- God to reveal His healing mantle and power against every pandemic, plague and pestilence, so that this will be an opportunity for many people to call on the name of the Lord and be saved.
2. Matthew 9:35 “Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people” – Let the healing mantle of Jesus be operational with signs, miracles and wonders – touching the community
3. 4. National harmony between the races and appreciation of each race
   Jonah 3:4-8 – Pray that our Nation Sri Lanka will receive freedom for the proclamation of the Gospel; calling everyone in Sri Lanka to repent and turn to the Lord.

The Church in Sri Lanka

1. John 17:21 “that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.” – Church denominations to work in unity
2. Matthew 5:13-14 “You are the salt of the earth; …… You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden” – Every believer to be the salt and the light
   3 Matthew 3:11 “He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire” – Jesus will baptize each one of us with the Holy Spirit and fire and pray for an open heaven and the Anointing of the Lord for all our Worship services. Thank God for every Prophetic utterance that will accelerate Heaven opening over our nation.
3. Joel 2:27-32 – Holy Spirit Fire and Tsunami to come upon the church and nation
4. Revelations 4:1-2 – a supernatural door of heaven to open to the Brookside Church family, with angelic visitations and encounters with the living God.

Community Reflection

Each day we will have a Community Reflection.

This provides you an opportunity to share visions, words of faith, or any reflection the Lord has put in your heart.  Our hope is that, by sharing your prayer experiences, you can encourage one another and spur one another on to love and good works (Heb. 10:24-25).

May 2nd – Just as I was waking up I had this dream. The hands of the President and the Prime Minister were paralysed from the elbow and below. I also saw a man who was an ordinary citizen with a smile on his face.

May 3rd – Matthew 17:21 “However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.” I was encouraged by this Word, that we are moving in the correct direction by praying and fasting.”

I had a dream that I was in a large hall filled with people. We were invoking the Holy Spirit of God. Suddenly I realised that the windows were closed. I asked the people to open the windows for the doves to come in. The revelation I received was to open the windows of your heart that have been closed, for the Spirit of the Lord to come in again.

May 4th – While I was praying for Sri Lanka, I saw a shining golden lamp before the throne of God. Its flame took the shape of Sri Lanka. With time the lamp gathered soot and got dark. The Sri Lankan shaped flame got darkened too. Then the Lord began to clean the flame. I felt what our country is facing now is the cleaning up process of the Lord. After the clean up, the lamp was shining again and the Sri Lankan shaped flame was pure. The Lord says, “My hand is not short over Sri Lanka, and my ear is not dull of hearing. Better days are ahead”

May 11th – I saw the Lord in His Gethsemane posture, with tears in His eyes turning to drops of blood and dropping over Sri Lanka. Let this be our posture of prayer. Justice comes not from the east, nor the west, nor the South but from the Lord.

May 12th – Psalm 37:35-40 “ I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a native green tree. Yet he passed away, and behold, he was no more

May 12th – Indeed I sought him, but he could not be found. Mark the blameless man, and observe the upright; For the future of that man is peace. But the transgressors shall be destroyed together; The future of the wicked shall be cut off. But the salvation of the righteous is from the Lord; He is their strength in the time of trouble. And the Lord shall help them and deliver them; He shall deliver them from the wicked, And save them, Because they trust in Him.”

I was directed to pray for the deep cleansing of the nation and the next general election
The Lord put on my heart strongly to pray grace from 1 Timothy 2:1-7 for leaders, for those in authority, decision makers, for those who need to be in leadership of our country to be to show up – found in godly fear and wisdom, anointed and raised up with shepherd and father hearts. Pray, bless, anoint, grace the body of Christ to be raised in Christ’s power and glory with the Spirit of the Lord as in Luke 4:18-19 and Isaiah 9:1-7. Psalm 32-34 – to speak, declare over Sri Lanka and her people’s soul and spirit.

May 17th – I saw a vision while praying for Sri Lanka. There were parchments laid to build a highway for the king to return. I asked the Lord what these parchments meant. The Lord said that these are laid in the desert sand to build the highway. These are people who understand the heat of the desert sand while living on earth, and yet create the faith momentum on the top surface to make a pathway for the King of kings.

The Lord reminded me of David when he was just a shepherd boy – the Philistines came against Israel. David fought with just 5 stones. He didn’t go to get Saul’s armour but fought with what he had. The things the Lord pointed out was – the giant before you is nothing when you fight with what you are trained with and to be content with what you have, that is more than enough. The battle belongs to the Lord. We need to turn from our wicked ways. We all have things in us we need to let go.

We have been led to pray through Isaiah 61 and psalm 144:9-15. We as God’s children anointed and led by His spirit – we can proclaim, comfort, console, and they shall rebuild and raise the former desolations. Strangers shall feed your flocks.

Through this time of praying for the nation Psalm 149 has been in my heart, that it is the high praise in the mouth of the believer and the two edged sword of the Word of God in our mouths that can transform our nation.
